the great part of online shopping is that everything is so convenient. everything is just one click away. and you feel great because you can buy so many things for so much cheaper.

but then, here comes the sucky part.

you have to WAIT for your orders to be processed AND shipped.

and patience is not really a virtue of mine. i've made 5 orders online in the past month or so and i've only received ~~one~~ three packages so far.

so that's ~~one~~ three down and ~~four~~ two more to go.

just keep waiting. just keep waiting. just keep waiting waiting waaaaaaaiiiiittttttttiiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggggggggg.

oh but i have to defend myself. i know the numbers seem like ALOT. but most of them are on sale! the laneige shadows were going for 2 for $15 and the NYX ones that i'm buying from the US were going at USD$1.40 (excluding shipping) for lipsticks and USD$2.80 for eye shadows!

anyway i'm just collecting them for fun. i dun think i'll actually wear all these colours out. but it's just fun to look at them. :)

so it's a hobby. i'm not a junkie!

and i just came home from prawning!!!

this time i fared way better that i did the first session. i caught SIX prawns! *beams* that's like *counts* SIX TIMES MORE than the first session. hur. thankfully, this dude took pity on us and gave us his extra basket of prawns. said he had too many and couldn't finish eating. i wonder how long it will take for me to be able to catch that many.

i don't really feel like giving much effort into the planning for this one. anymore.

i mean you don't just become involved by attending a session.

my "role" may seem big and important. but actually it is only all in the name.

she didn't have a choice in choosing anyone else anyway.

the traditions have been looked upon with disgust and dealt away with.

much to the disappoint of one.

i mean. why bother with tradition. right.

maybe there were just too many expectations.

i shan't have anymore expectations.

to avoid more disappointments.

i'll just be there to attend and perform and be as happy as i can.

i must say it wasn't a disappointment. as always, i'm a sucker for sad love stories and i love audrey tatou! she is always so gorgeous. but she did look a wee bit old in the movie and it would have been much better if they had focused more on how she became famous. still i'm not complaining!

i love the two guys in the show too! my heart went out to balsan and i was totally charmed by "boy". speaking of which, i was utterly amused at the chinese subtitles because they called arthur "boy" capel ----> 仔仔.

i've been ridiculously lazy the past week. am supposed to post pictures of my birthday celebrations at dragonfly on my blog but after uploading on facebook, i really can't be bothered anymore. and then there's collegiate dinner. but since the whole world is uploading it on facebook alr, i might give it a miss. (ok maybe not. i'll just upload it later in the week.)

as we age

our birthdays are no longer as important as they were before. i know i'm not that old yet but i'm starting to lose track of how old i am. after 21, it just doesn't seem that important anymore. and the fact that i'm really an adult now only hit me when i was at my usual threading place just now. i saw they had discounted prices for teens and was pretty happy at the much reduced price. finally some savings. but on a closer look, i noticed the fine print stating that the prices were only for customers aged 13-19. dammit. i'm waaaayyyyyy past 19. :(

anyhow my parents also decided that my birthday ain't as important anymore and refused to have a dinner with my on the actual day. they claimed that they could not tell my relatives not to come to our place (as they usually do every sunday) because it was not nice to not invite them along for my birthday dinner. i would like to think that they actually rather play mahjong. like whatever. i immediately decided to have dinner with my dear friends instead. and as if they weren't horrible enough, as i drove into the vivocity carpark (like literally just crossing the carpark entry barrier) my dad called me:

dad: "where are you?"

me: "vivocity. why?"

dad: "can you come home and walk the dogs? it's raining. (we need to walk the dogs at sheltered areas when it rains you see) your mother cannot drive the van and i'm playing mahjong." (like seriously WTF?!)

me: "but i just reached vivo! you want me to drive back just to walk them and then drive back?!"

dad: "yea."

me: "...."

and so i had to drive back. after all it was his car and he was the one paying for petrol. like seriously, who said you get special treatment on your birthday? -.-"

anyway dinner was great i.e. food was awesome and company even better! i definitely want to go back there again soon!

how many chickens are there in the world?

*warning. an extremely random post.*

it all started when i asked joe what he had for dinner last night. he replied that he had duck rice and an egg. it got me thinking. why don't people eat duck eggs. i mean.. it's duck rice right. it's so unfair to the chickens that their eggs are used for both chicken and duck rice (not to mention many other dishes that have eggs in them. think eggs, pratas, omelettes etc. ok i'm digressing.)

so i became a little concerned over the chicken population and asked joe how many chickens are there in the world? joe was convinced that there are more chickens than humans. but i didn't believe him. so i got him to google.

according to yahoo answers:

"There are 45 thousand chickens per person.. so that makes around 2902500000000000 chickens in the world..."

wow. if there are so many chickens, why are there people starving in africa? if we just give half of the 45 thousand chickens per person to africa, i'm sure they wouldn't be hungry anymore! but then again, joe pointed out that at this point in time, i probably can't afford to give africa 20,000+ chickens even if they were $1 each. hehs.

and according to wikianswers (in answer to the question "what is the current 2008 global chicken population"):

"the population is currently 0, because they are extinct buddy"

and you thought wiki was reliable.

well i guess the most realistic answer probably comes from edhelper.com (which i've never heard of btw.):

it was an awesome night.

vanness wu was in the house but i thought his performance was a little duh. much preferred the rest of the performers that night! performers aside, we all went mad!! according to kk, i was damn high for a couple of hours. i think most of the time i was just 自 high. i refuse to give credit to the alcohol. :)

i remembered challenging cher to run up to the stage and shake the hands of the singer (which he did but i backed out. hurhur.) but later i did ran up to the stage and shook sylvester sim's hands. he looked damn shock at first and i swear he thought i was crazy. :) and i was thrashing everyone at 猜拳 (the finger guessing game) till jared came along. bah. oh! but i managed to cheat boaz into buying chicken wings (HAHA!) let me tell you man - dragonfly's chicken wings are damn freaking good.

anyway in case you haven't seen the photos from facebook..

it's back to work i suppose. :(

brought mocha to the dog show today! the poor boy suffered joseph yeo's insults the whole afternoon because mocha looks like a pudgy, extra large and curlier fur version of the nice typical yorkshire terriers.

i also brought mocha to school to watch the boys play soccer against law society and he had a great time! he went mad running around the field chasing birds and imaginary cats! imaginary because he kept dashing towards the wall but when he reached the wall, he had this confused look on his face. and the next thing i know, he's turning around and running off like a mad dog. go figure.

and in other news, i bought this toy hp for the dogs to play with and it is utterly adorable. when you grab the hp, it will start ringing! and of course, it drove mini mad when i brought it home for her to play with. and the toy lasted a grand total of ten minutes before the sound device in the toy broke. way to go mini.

and finally, mini is actually jealous of mocha because i didn't bring her out. in my defence, she's not a very sociable dog. she's afraid of large crowds and don't like to meet new dogs! but anyway, she kept attacking mocha when we came back! just 5 mins ago, she started barking outside my room. so when i open the door, she just stared at mocha. it was doggie face-off. the next thing i knew she FLEW and attacked mocha. i had to grab hold of mocha and lift him up in the air. and while trying to attack mini himself, mocha happily bit my chin when i pulled him away.

stupid.dogs. bah.

the other person was rather odd. she's my favourite wanton mee stall owner. the conversation was rather amusing too. while queuing for my food:

auntie: ah girl, not going out today? 没有人约你吗？(nobody date you?)

me: no lah.. staying at home today! outside very crowded and expensive!

auntie: wah! so guai ah! know how to save money!

*pause. goes back to taking orders from other people. a couple of minutes later.*

auntie: ah girl. you really got no date today ah? you so pretty got no boyfriend meh? (HEEHEE! and NO this is not the purpose of posting this conversation!)

me: *awkward laughter* haha.. no lah auntie. i got boyfriend lah. but we are staying home today..

auntie: you have?! is he around?! *peers around*

me: no lah! he is still at home!

auntie: oh.. 下次要带他来见我 hor！(next time you must bring him to see me!)

me: *major awkward laughter* hahaha! can no problem!

*my noodles are finally done*

within the past week, i found out that i have babies with joe and that i'm engaged!

wow. since when man.

anyway yesterday, i was damn suay (and lucky). in both my classes, i was called upon and both times i was caught off guard!! the first time, i actually did my readings and could answer the question. unfortunately i missed the question and longjin saw my super lost face and quickly answered for me. the second time in the next class, i did not do my readings and my heart sank when he called upon me. but BEFORE i could even put up my hand to respond, this lady sitting in front volunteered to answer! DAMN HENG i tell you. i need to buy 4D. but i think i missed today's draw. damn. maybe it's meant to come out tmr. hur.

ok back to doing my readings for tmr cos i don't think i'll be that lucky again!

i know this is a little late but here's wishing everyone gong xi fa cai!

apparently, the luck of the tiger should be pretty good in the year of the ox but clearly they forgot to include me in the equation. my gambling luck has been mightily shag. i think i've lost close to $120 in the past week. :(

but in a way, i'm thankful it's not accurate because according to my sources, people born in the year of the ox are very unlucky this year. they will change jobs, change houses, change cars AND CHANGE SPOUSES. just in case you were wondering why i have such a huge reaction - my dad's an ox. so all of the above will apply indirectly to me. i don't want a new house or a new car or a NEW MUM!

ok clearly this is a rather rubbish post but i don't exactly have anything else to blog about.not feeling very coherent either. so tata! :)

i probably ate enough food the past 6 days to last a month. and also maybe enough char siew for the rest of my life. just thinking about it makes me full. and detox plan is failing cos i had yakun with my family AFTER dinner. :(

anyway here are the hong kong photos!

and u wonder why i had 5 meals a day.

lamma island was probably the highlight of the trip. took a little hike through the island and discovered a quaint little town with mini vehicles zipping through the narrow streets! there are bars, organic food shops, farms along side the traditional local shops. totally not what i expected of lamma island. must go back again!

hong kong has been a great trip. finally made my trip to victoria peak at night and went for my first gay club experience. awesome stuff. company was great and i want to thank rachel and lilian for being such lovely hosts!

had a rather quiet christmas this year but i actually kinda like it this way. :)

christmas eve night was spent playing taboo and my team won! :)

on boxing day, i decided to dress up a little more than usual but ended up at vivocity with joe walking around rather aimlessly. (and then ended up with really sore feet cos i wore my new heels. lol!)

then i had a christmas gathering with my jc class and the night was just spent reminiscing the good old days with pizza and beer. the highlight of that night was probably the lorry ride to vivocity!

we had fun alright. :)

and finally, today i went to a flea market with josy and her dad to sell some of my old clothes! i was literally selling clothes out of a luggage. haha! sadly i sold nothing but it was really great fun just sitting around, flirting with the neighbour stall's baby son and playing stupid dice games.

now i'm just looking forward to hong kong!

the trip

it's been quite a while since i last travelled with my mum and GOD i almost wanted to die. i know she loves me a lot and wants to protect me and all. but i suddenly felt 10 all over again. and with my aunts travelling along, it was like mum + her obedient minions towering over me. :(

well, it started off with the early morning coach ride to genting. while waiting at golden mile for the bus to depart, my mum and aunts (let's call them "munts" for short) were like

"yayayayayaya (say this very quickly, in an auntie manner), stay close to us ah. here very dangerous wan."

"yayayayaya, keep your passport properly ah, later somebody steal it."

"yayayayaya, we can board the bus already. make sure you have all your luggage with you."

note, this was BEFORE i even boarded the bus. ON board the bus before reaching the border, my munts were like

"yayayayayaya, do you have all your bags with you?"

"yayayayayaya, do you still have your passport? take it down with u later k."

and upon reaching the border when getting off the bus at the checkpoint,

"yayayayayaya, you walk in front, so that your mother can see you."

i swear i was going to pull out my hair, just that i was suffering a major lack of sleep and hence i couldn't be bothered to snap back at them. and also because of this stupid lack of sleep, i brought the wrong bag down from the bus and left my passport in the coach when i got off to get through immigration. thankfully i rushed back in time to get it. this of course fueled the next round of "yayayayayaya,..."s.

(i don't even know why they must say yaya so many times when they can just call my name properly. sheesh.)

aunt: "yayayayayaya, next time you must put your passport in your bag and keep it close to you." (DUH I DID. just that i took the wrong bag down)

mum: "whole day so careless, give me your passport! i keep for you!"

thankfully after crossing the border, i just knocked out and hence no more "yayayayayaya,..."s till we reached the first stop. by then, my munts had called "yayayayayaya,..." about 20-30 times. josy kept track. i don't think i'm exaggerating. at all.

and when we reached the first toilet/meal stop, my mum started her "must-keep-yaya-in-sight-at-all-times" syndrome. she would either force me to walk in front of her (which was difficult because she walks very quickly and i like to stroll along slowly with josy) or if i'm walking behind, she will turn back every min to make sure i'm just behind her. in fact, she continued this practice way into genting highlands and KL. in fact, she did not let me wander ANYWHERE myself except for TWO instances.

for those who have been to genting highlands recently and the KL shopping malls, you would know that it is perfectly safe for two young female adults to walk around together. but no, my mum REFUSED to let me out of her sight. when i shop in KL, (it's not even those dingy malls like sungei wang but nice high class malls like Pavilion) she has to tag along. as such, my relatives and my godmas would tag along too. so, it's like josy and me leading the way, with 6 aunties, 1 uncle and my poor 16 year old guy cousin, following behind like sheep. IT'S A BLOODY INEFFCIENT MANNER of shopping because every time an auntie spots something (usually it's quite ugly) at a shop, all 10 of us have to stop and wait for them to be done. josy and i were on the verge of killing ourselves. josy's mum i.e. my godma tried to coax my mum into letting me and josy walk around by ourselves but my mum would hear none of it. apparently my dad gave her orders to keep an eye on me. oh lord give me strength. and the last night of our stay just made it worse. some ang mo tourist had her bag snatched just outside the hotel and the snatch thief hopped onto a bike and rode off. this reinforced her "group theory" where everyone should just STICK together in a group so that we would deter such incidents. i mean, i agree it makes sense when we are on the streets la but how's this going to happen in a shopping mall?!

so when were the two instances when she'd let me walk alone? well the first was when we spent more than 100 ringgit at isetan and hence were entitled to redeem a free christmas cookie. (un)fortunately, the redemption counter was one floor up and (shockingly) my mum told me to go up alone to collect it. i think she had forgotten that she was in malaysia for a moment because the isetan departmental store looks almost exactly the same as singapore. the second time was later on during the evening. my godma tried her luck at coaxing my mum to let me go shopping with josy alone. this time, (shockingly again) my mum allowed because she wasn't feeling too well. her nose was runny and i don't think she was up to following my and josy combing the whole shopping mall. and apparently while i was gone with josy, my godma told me that my mum looked at her after we ran off to shop and said, "if anything happens to my daughter u take full responsibility." LOL! and my godma also told me that the day before while shopping, my mum let me and josy shop at forever 21 while she stayed behind with the aunties to look at some auntie clothes NEXT DOOR to forever 21. during that period of time, my godma noticed my mum shopping listlessly and looking very worried and before 15 mins was up, she said "i'm going over to check on the girls" before scurrying off next door to find josy and me. i don't know whether to laugh or cry.

did i mention that she controlled what i wanted to buy too? (well it's also partly because i used up all my money and i needed her to pay for it, hence the need for her permission) i found this gorgeous pair of heels from charles and keith (which cannot be found in singapore!) but she refused to buy it because "heels are bad for your back!" right. so when am i going to wear heels then. when i'm 80 and on a wheelchair so that at that point of time, my back won't be affected by the heels? and when i want to buy halter or spag tops, my mum would also not buy it because my dad thinks it's indecent (i suppose this is not really her fault because i could tell that she thinks it's nice too. gah.)

ok, the trip wasn't all that bad. when we were at genting, i gambled at the casino for the first time! i played big small and lost 25 ringgit of my own money and 200 ringgit of my aunt's. i was damn suay. i would bet on big and odd, but the result would be small and even. like wth. at the end of it, my aunt asked me how come i don't have beginner's luck. HAHA. i so suck at gambling. but it was a really cool experience walking around the casinos in genting. it was super old school lah. like straight out of a 1980s hong kong movie.

and shopping at KL was GREAT! there was sale EVERYWHERE and the forever 21 and topshop outlets were HUGE. forever 21 had so many sections and i was just getting dizzy trying to go through every rack. well i perservered and managed to comb every section and rack in forever 21 (because josy and i went back to forever 21 like 3 times during the 2 days we were in KL. HAHA!) i managed to get quite a few stuff with my shopping allowance that my mum gave me (it wasn't a lot but it was enough) and i really wouldn't mind going back again! probably next year the same time so that it would be the sales period again and i can go shop like CRAZY! :)

i've been relatively healthy for the past 1.5 years of my life. there were some rare occasions of slight sniffles and sore throat but they never materialized into anything serious.

fast forward to this morning, i was whacked with dizzy spells and a queasy tummy. two panadols later and many little naps, i felt much better and thought i was fit as a fiddle again.

but once the effect of the panadol wore off, i felt chills in my bones and soreness all over. i was literally shivering under my jacket. decided not to kill my body before my exam and go home to see the doctor.

his diagnosis - fever of 38.8 deg C.

WTF!

no symptoms whatsoever. just a fever.

life is funny sometimes. she just decided to give me the brain-fry disease the day before the most important paper of the semester.

due to my inefficiency and inability to concentrate for periods longer than 20 mins, i'm still stuck doing my first assignment.

i apologise for not uploading any pics of gill's birthday simply because it takes too much time and well, everyone's uploaded theirs on facebook! :) besides, i'm already lagging behind my mental time schedule for my assignments. it doesn't help that i postpone the deadline every time i reach it.

anyway i went for the amei concert yesterday and i only have one word for it - fantastic. the woman is simply brilliant and amazing. nothing beats listening to her live. i think i'm not going for anymore concerts till her next one. $140 for a 3 hour concert (not to mention 3 hour karaoke session with so many adoring fans.. heehee!) super worth it!!

last night was a pretty awesome night. i think apart from the technical glitches, it could have been one of our best performances ever. :)

while it's quite a relief that law iv is really over, with no more (tri-weekly) rehearsals to go for, i feel kinda sad. performing is really pretty shit fun and i can finally understand why some people just love to perform so much. the whole nervousness experienced backstage coupled with the adrenaline rush onstage.. pretty addictive.

in any case, it's really over now and i just have to suck it up and start doing my assignments.

just got home from cheryl's wedding dinner. it was probably one of the nicest wedding dinners i've been to. it was a nice small just-family-and-close-friends sorta dinner as oppose to the invite-the-whole-world dinners. so you won't see the bride and groom rushing around trying to entertain the whole world and hence neglecting others.

there were the usual cheesy love songs (which i loved), the photo presentation (there was a photo of us and cheryl when we were kids and my table let out a collective horrified gasp!) and of course the sweet seranading of the bride by the groom with Now and Forever by Richard Marx.

it was just pretty much an awww-inducing night.

i bet josy is rolling her eyes as she reads this. but hey woman, i have no idea how cool and classy your wedding is gonna be. but i would be pretty happy if mine was somewhere as sweet as this. :)

last night, my sis and i arranged to have breakfast with my dad before he drops my sister off in church and me in school. my sister needed to be in church at 930am and me in school by 10am. my sister's church is pretty near school hence the breakfast thought. so the plan was to leave the house by 845am and have breakfast nearby. next thing i knew, i received an sms from kek saying that rehearsal was postponed to 11am. i decided against canceling breakfast even though i'll be in school shit early. afterall it's breakfast with the old man right.

this morning, in typical girly fashion, my sis and i were a little late in getting ready. however, the whole time, my dad was just sitting on his favourite chair watching the damn sports channel and not uttering a single word. (he would usually be shouting his head off if my sis and i were late. so i figured nothing was wrong.) i came out of my room at 845am (not that late right?) and by the time the 3 of us were in the car, it was say, 850-855am?

once we got into the car,

dad: look at the time now? how to eat breakfast you tell me? you two only know how to talk talk talk. say go breakfast. say only. never keep your word. i don't want to eat breakfast with you anymore. late 5 - 10 min never mind. but look at the time now?

me: it's only 855am what.

dad: you still dare to say?! what time were we supposed to leave the house?

me: 845 what.

dad: 845am your head ah! 830am can! even if it's 845, look at the time now! you still dare to talk back.

wtf. in the first bloody place, since when it was 830am. and then initially, he says late 5-10 min never mind. then he changes his mind. and was i talking back?! -.-"

upon reaching town at 905am, my sis decided to play the role of the good guy,

sis (very sweetly): dad, let's have breakfast lah. still got time. i'm hungry.

dad: don't want to eat already. you eat wherever you want to eat and i will go office and eat what i want to eat.

and for your information. i reached school at 920am. i'm fucking early even for a bloody 10am rehearsal. and you know what's the best part? the whole canteen except for the noodle soup stall and drinks stall is closed. what the fuck. i dun eat anything from the noodle stall. i'm highly annoyed. i could have been sleeping and only start making my way down to school like say in 15 mins time.

bah.

anyway excuse me while i go take a short nap now.

i went swimming with joe today at the public pool in redhill!

and i must say i've never seen so many guys tanning in the sun by themselves in one shot. there were at least 6 guys on the pool deck chairs gleaming in the sunlight (from their tanning oil) while roasting themselves. and no they didn't look yummy even though they were all in trunks - bulging bellies are not cool. but i must say some of the dudes were pretty buff. :)

oh! and another interesting bit was that i was the ONLY female in the pool. throughout the whole hour and a half that i was there, i was wondering where all the female swimming population of redhill went to.

where were ALL the 女人s? why only got 男人s?!?!

i then decided that it was time to leave when i finally completed my 8th lap (or 16 depending whether you count by 50m or 100m laps) and when i saw a HERD of primary school kids flooding in through the main entrance.

swimming with 男人s only i can still tahan.

swimming with in a pool full of screaming children i cannot.

nonetheless, it was an experience swimming in the public pool. the last time i swam in one was in pri 1 or 2 if i'm not wrong. not that i want to continue doing so cos i don't think i can handle becoming darker. at the risk of sounding bimbotic, i really just want to stay fair. so no more swimming for me!

i'm finally done with the last episode of this hk tvb drama that i've been watching on tudou for the past few weeks. like finally. it's probably one of the best drama serial that i've ever watched. it is also probably the only show that can, in one episode (namely the last episode), cause me to be extremely upset, pissed, happy and then.. confused - all these in 40 mins. quite a feat eh. oh by the way the show is called 火舞黄沙 in case you guys were interested. oh and the most retarded thing is that i actually have the dvds to the show but i chose to stream it online. why? because the discs are at my grandparent's place and i'm really just too lazy to go over and look for it.

in other news, ever since joe came home, i've been eating non-stop.

hectic week

it's been a super busy week..

last week, i had to go to the airport for 3 consecutive days, prepare for my pupillage applications and go through countless mentally and physically draining interviews for pupillage. thankfully i had nice interviewers. and i'm glad to say that i've secured (what i hope is) a good place in a good firm for my pupillage and i'm actually even more grateful that i was called up for interviews.

I've resorted to reading my testimonials from my secondary school and jc days to aid me in my applications for pupillage.

on a secondary note, my mum discovered that she is eligible to watch movies at a discounted rate ($4) because she is now officially a senior citizen upon hitting the ripe old age of 55. so that means i've got a new movie buddy AND a new sponsor for my movie tickets!

it's been a week since i've been back and i've never felt better.

no more i-miss-shanghai/holidays-and-boyfriend nonsense! catching up with girlfriends is so much better!

shopping with wei yesterday was super fun! you would think after all the cheap shopping in china would make me not want to buy anything in singapore.. but hell no. i bought a skirt at topshop for $60ish. i tell myself, this is singapore. no more $7 dresses. shucks. somebody stop me. :)

i'm so blabbering but i can't be bothered. i just love my state of being right now and to hell with all the idiots out there!

this time round it was much better! the fish was fried in little pieces (think Chippy's) and the heat was under control this time! hence the golden brown colour! :)

made onion rings with the extra batter too! :)

jaime made chicken stew and super awesome spicy garlicky mash potatoes!

just check out the bits of garlic in it!!

so much food for just the 3 of us but we actually finished most of it!

anyway no photo of the 3 of us cos we all looked super oily and unkempt after cooking. sorry to disappoint. HAHA!

on a another note, after tomorrow, i really should get started on chinese.

Beer Battered Fish

decided to give it a shot since the recipe i found online seemed easy enough.

my mum grilled chicken (as you can see in the background) in case my fish failed. but it didn't! the first batch was burnt though cos the oil was too hot.. haha!

decided to fry some wedges to go with it! :)

so you see! it didn't turn out too bad! had some pretty decent reviews from the family. but of course they may be biased.

shall give it another shot tomorrow!
